This lens is a more affordable alternative to true anamorphic lenses. It features a custom oval optical element integrated into the lens barrel during the modification process. This lens is fantastic to experiment with. The oval element performs effectively, creating bokeh that closely mimics the look of genuine anamorphic footage.

This modification preserves the natural color rendition of the optics, allowing for seamless shooting in various lighting conditions without introducing unwanted color cast. Please note: while this lens features anamorphic-style modifications, it is not a native anamorphic optical system. It is a spherical lens modified to produce captivating oval bokeh. Importantly, it does not squeeze the image horizontally—you will get a standard, unsqueezed image directly from the camera.

The Mir-1V is a classic Soviet-era wide-angle lens, a further development of the original Mir-1 (based on the Carl Zeiss Biogon design). It is renowned for its dreamy, low-contrast rendering and glowing, ethereal bokeh, especially in backlight, while providing good sharpness across the frame when stopped down.

This unit has been professionally modified for modern cinematography. The key adaptation is the installation of a standard 0.8 mod gear on the focus ring, making it fully compatible with follow focus systems. This transformation provides the precise, smooth focus control required for professional video work while fully preserving the lens’s iconic optical character—allowing you to integrate its legendary vintage look seamlessly into contemporary filmmaking.
