This lens is a more affordable alternative to a true anamorphic lens. Because of the oval insert integrated into the lens, you get the characteristic oval bokeh of an anamorphic lens.

As a result of the insert, the depth of field is slightly increased. Also, keep in mind that the oval bokeh effect will only work with the aperture wide open; when closing the aperture, the blades will ‘cut off’ the edges of the oval.

This is not a true anamorphic lens, as it does not compress the image—you get a normal-sized image straight away.

The Jupiter-9 85mm f/2 lens is known for its unique vintage style and artistic capabilities. This lens captures attention with its soft bokeh and delicate colors, making it ideal for creative video projects. Its 15-blade diaphragm ensures round bokeh and smooth depth of field control, making it an indispensable tool for videographers. While the lens may suffer from a lack of contrast and a tendency to flare, its artistic potential and vintage character make it an appealing choice.

We have adapted the Jupiter-9 for use on modern video cameras with follow focus systems, allowing you to achieve incredible vintage imagery in your video projects. With our modification, you will enjoy smooth and precise focus control necessary for professional work while preserving the distinctive style and quality of the Jupiter-9.
